DESCRIPTION:Beaufort County Historical Society is pleased to remind you that Col Jon Hoffman will discuss his book Chesty: the Story of LtGen Lewis B Puller at Beaufort Yacht and Sailing Club\, Thursday\, Nov. 2nd at 2 pm.\n\n \n\nMr. Hoffman assumed the duties of Chief Historian\, U.S. Army Center of Military History on 22 August 2016.  He was commissioned in the Marine Corps Reserve in December 1978 and served thirty years as an infantry officer and field historian\, including seventeen years of active duty\, retiring at the rank of colonel in 2008.  Hoffman spent  three years as a history instructor at the U.S. Naval Academy\, and two years as the deputy director and acting director of the Marine Corps History and Museums Division.  His Marine Corps Reserve duty included tours as a field historian\, an adjunct faculty member for the Marine Corps University\,   He served as the civilian deputy of the Marine history program from 2002 to 2005\, then spent five years as head of the Contemporary Studies Branch at the U.S. Army Center of Military History.  From 2010 to 2016\, he was the Deputy Chief Historian for the Secretary of Defense Historical Office.
