Lower School Teacher

The lower school teacher is responsible for instructing their lower school level students in appropriate subject areas with school approved curriculum and programs. S/he establishes a safe and positive environment that motivates students in developing skills, knowledge and attitudes that support the development of a solid foundation for continued learning. The lower school teacher works collaboratively with parents, administrators and faculty colleagues to enhance learning opportunities and meet teaching objectives. S/he must have a strong understanding of best practices and the school’s mission. The lower school teacher reports directly to the Lower School Division Head. ESSENTIAL DUTIES: His or her responsibilities include: ? Works collaboratively with a team of faculty colleagues, administrators and parents to nurture children both inside and outside the classroom. ? Provides for the safety and well-being of all students at all times. ? Models appropriate and ethical behavior. ? Adapts and employs a variety of educational techniques, tools and materials (games, storytelling, books, music, educational play, etc.) to teach approved grade-appropriate curriculum. ? Integrates competencies, goals and objectives into lesson plans. ? Maintains accurate and complete records of students’ progress, development and attendance. ? Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures outlined in the Blue Book ? Maintains discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems outlined in the Blue Book. ? Maintains open communication with parents, students and administrators through meetings, reports and other approved vehicles. ? Supports the school community through academic and non-academic programs and activities. ? Continually develops and enriches professional skills and knowledge by attending seminars, conferences, etc. ? Maintains applicable employment requirements (certifications, licensing, training, etc.) ? Maintains a tidy and orderly classroom ensuring adherence to health and safety standards. ? Performs other duties as assigned by the Lower School Division Head. ? Supports the school and its leadership.
