Public Works Employee

JOB DESCRIPTION:

Public works encompasses engineering, construction and related activities carried out by government for the benefit of citizens.  Work is performed in a variety of environmental conditions, both indoors and out.  Common jobs you may do include minor repairs throughout the town, maintaining parks, bulk pick up, setting up events, etc. Applicants may be required to respond to emergencies after regular working hours and must be willing to work an irregular schedule, which may include weekends when applicable. 

Requirements:

A Valid Driver’s License is required as well as the ability to operate the various pieces of equipment needed for the job.  You will be required to obtain Class B CDL within 6 months of employment.  The Town of Port Royal will help the applicant acquire this with the understanding the applicant will work for the Town for a minimum of two years.  Education qualifications include a high school diploma or GED certificate.  Some on-the-job training will be provided, but you must be able to follow directions, both written and oral, and be comfortable working alone most of the time.  Physical demands require bending, stooping, and frequently lifting moderately heavy and heavy objects.  Must be able to lift up to 100 pounds.  It’s essential to maintain positive relationships with other workers and the public, understand safety rules, wear protective equipment as needed and be available for emergency calls.

Salary:

Salary range starting at $18 an hour.
