Description
Coastal Resilience: Balancing conservation and development in the Port Royal Sound.
The Port Royal Sound contains about one third of all saltmarsh habitat in South Carolina. This habitat protects Beaufort County by filtering out pollutants, storing carbon, supporting fisheries and providing a buffer to storm surge. The salt marshes are also at risk as sea levels rise and development continues to boom across the watershed. To address these issues, groups across the region are working to better conserve these critical areas and monitor the impacts of development on our backyard.
Hear from panelists: Kerri Forrest (Coastal Community Foundation), Courtney Kimmel (Port Royal Sound Foundation), Kate Parks Shaefer ( Lowcountry Land Trust), and Juliana Zadik (Beaufort County).
